Homemade dog food can be wonderful — fresher ingredients, no mystery fillers, full control over what your dog eats. But getting it right is surprisingly hard. AAFCO guidelines are technical. Every dog's calorie needs are different. Some ingredients that sound healthy are quietly toxic.
Big Heart Small Bowl does the math for you. Enter your dog's weight, age, activity level, and any health conditions — and we calculate a complete, balanced recipe using established nutritional formulas. Every number is deterministic: same input, same output, every time.
Our principles
Deterministic, not generative
Every recipe value — calories, grams, serving sizes, cooking steps — comes from typed formulas and vetted nutrition tables, not an AI model that might hallucinate. Nutrition math is too important to guess at.
Safety is non-negotiable
Allergens are hard-removed from the ingredient picker, never just flagged with a warning. Foods that can harm your dog simply don't appear.
Honest about limitations
We follow AAFCO guidelines, but homemade diets still require veterinary oversight — especially for dogs with health conditions. We show legal health-condition warnings verbatim, not softened.
